Due to persistent rain, the Nepal-Sri Lanka T20 World Cup clash at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Florida was abandoned, without even the toss event taking place. Both teams collected a point each. With this result, South Africa became the first team to qualify to the next stage of the tournament.

The toss was delayed because of incessant rain. After a while, rain did relent for a few minutes. Unfortunately, the groundsmen didn’t have enough time to clear all the water and moisture and the umpires decided to call off play at 20.00 local time.

Sri Lanka’s qualification chances of progressing to Super 8s now hang by a thread. Simply put, their fate is in the hands of other teams in the group. They occupy the last place in Group D, with a solitary point against their name. Nepal too have collected one point after playing two games and currently take the fourth position.
