6 bookies from 3 states arrested in Pune; probe ongoing in IPL betting case

Six bookies from different states were arrested by the Pune city police for their alleged involvement in betting on an IPL cricket match between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

The raid took place on the ninth floor of Galaxy One Society in Kharadi. The bookies were identified as individuals from Chattisgarh, Punjab, and Bihar, as stated by the police.

Led by senior police inspector Bharat Jadhav, assistant police inspector Aniket Pote, and their team, the raid resulted in the confiscation of various items and a cash amount of ₹5 lakh. Among the seized items were 16 mobile phones, two laptops, and other materials associated with betting.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Gaurav Dayaram Dharamwani, Sunish Tulshidas Lakhwani, Japjit Singh Atamjit Singh Bagga, Jasprit Manjinder Singh, Tarandeep Baljinder Singh Singh, and Lalkishore Dukhi Ram. Furthermore, a bookie named DK has been booked by the Chandannagar police.

According to officials, the accused were involved in placing bets on the live cricket match between MI and LSG using various online platforms.

The accused individuals have been charged under sections 420 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), sections 4(a) and 5 of the Maharashtra Gambling Prevention Act, and section 25(c) of the Indian Telegraph Act, as per police reports.
