The West Indies and the USA will host the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, as scheduled, after recent reports suggesting a switch across the Atlantic to England were rubbished by the International Cricket Council (ICC). Those had cited concerns over the lack of proper infrastructure in the United States. The USA is co-hosting the event, to be played in June-July, 2024.
With 12 months to go, the organisers are upbeat about the current situation regarding the cricketing infrastructure in the USA. A recent news report had stated that the ICC might request England to step in and host the event. Notably, England, Ireland and Scotland are set to host the 2030 T20 World Cup.
“No truth at all,” a senior ICC source told RevSportz. “England? How would it work? They have their summers planned years out. We are on course to host the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and USA.”

The USA Men’s National Team will qualify automatically as co-hosts of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, alongside West Indies. Importantly, the USA is all set to host the inaugural edition of Major League Cricket (MLC), which will take place from July 13-30 at Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas. The league has officially been recognised by the ICC.
The ICC’s move to take cricket to a country like the USA is part of a bigger picture. With the world cricket body looking to have a berth in the Los Angeles Olympics 2028, the USA hosting a few matches during the 2024 T20 World Cup could be a major boost to the popularity of the sport worldwide. The tournament is likely to lay the foundation for cricket’s Olympic return.
