Indian fast bowler Jaydev Unadkat, who recently marked his return to the national team, is gearing up for a brief stint with Sussex during the upcoming County Championship season. Unadkat is slated to participate in three matches against Durham, Leicestershire, and Derbyshire.
Unadkat, the left-arm pacer, boasts an impressive first-class track record, bagging 382 wickets in 103 matches at an enviable average of 22.58. His achievements include 22 five-wicket hauls and 18 four-wicket hauls. He also etched his name in history by leading his domestic side, Saurashtra, to clinch the prestigious Ranji Trophy title in the 2019-2020 season.
“I am excited to join Sussex for their Championship games in September. I have been following the team’s recent run of success and I had a nice conversation with Paul [Farbrace] and it looks like I can definitely add value and contribute towards the team’s goals,” Jaydev Unadkat was quoted as saying by Sussexcricket.co.uk.
“We are delighted that Jaydev will join us for the September championship period, he is a quality bowler and a great guy to have join our squad at an exciting time of the season. His record is outstanding, and we will be looking for Jaydev to share his experience with our developing team. Everyone at Hove is looking forward to Jaydev being part of this Championship run in and help the team to take wickets and win games of cricket,” Paul Farbrace was quoted as saying by Sussexcricket.co.uk.
However, the move suggests that Unadkat may be out of Team India’s ODI World Cup scheme of things.
Sussex is poised to recommence their red-ball season by facing Durham on September 3 at Chester-le-Street.
