Former Sri Lankan bowler Lasith Malinga will return to Mumbai Indians as their bowling coach for the upcoming IPL 2024 season. This marks his second stint with MI’s support staff, as he previously served as a mentor in 2018.
Malinga will take over the role from Shane Bond, the former New Zealand pacer, who held the position for a remarkable nine years, starting in 2015. During his tenure, the team secured four IPL titles in 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2022. Additionally, he is also the head coach for MI Emirates in the ILT20.
Having concluded his IPL playing career with MI in 2021, Malinga transitioned to the role of bowling coach for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL for two years.
Malinga’s association with the MI has been notably successful, with him securing five IPL title, and picking up a total of 195 wickets in 139 matches for the team. In the IPL alone, he accumulated 170 wickets, a record that places him as the joint-sixth-highest wicket-taker in the history of the
