Shubman Gill, the young Indian batter, commended his captain and opening companion, Rohit Sharma, for allowing players the complete liberty to showcase their natural playing styles. Gill also expressed his delight in partnering with his captain at the top of the order.
“It feels great to be able to open up with him (Rohit Sharma), especially knowing that all the focus is on him. He’s someone who likes the other batters to go and just express himself and play the way I want to play the game. So in that nature, he gives the players full freedom for how they want to express their game,” he told ICC.
Rohit and Gill as an opening pair are off to a brilliant start together in the one-day format, amassing 685 runs at an impressive average of 76.11 across nine innings they have opened together. If we exclude their lone partnership outside of opening the innings, their average partnership soars to 85.37.
