On the eve of their Asia Cup clash against India, Rohit Paudel, the Nepal captain, suggested that his side had devised strategies to tackle both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Nepal need to win to progress to the Super 4s, after a heavy defeat to Pakistan in the tournament opener.
“We are excited to play against India,” said Paudel. “India is a big country. We are all excited to represent Nepal against India on the biggest stage. Virat and Rohit have been the stars for their country for over ten years. We have made plans to tackle them and hopefully, we will execute them tomorrow. On the field, it will be a game that both of us will be wanting to win.”
This match in Pallekele will their first meeting in a senior tournament. Nepal’s players got a rude reality check against Pakistan in their opening match, while the much-hyped India-Pakistan game was abandoned after India had posted a total of 266.
However, neither Rohit nor Kohli could make an impact against Pakistan. Rohit managed 11 runs from 22 balls, while Kohli was dismissed for just four runs (seven balls). Both fell to Shaheen Shah Afridi.
