Shubman Gill, the India opener who played his part in the comfortable 10-wicket win against Nepal that stamped India’s passage into the Super 4s, was still berating himself over the nature of his dismissal against Pakistan in the opening group game of the Asia Cup.
“Quite disappointed with the way I got out day before yesterday,” said Gill of his 32-ball 10 against Pakistan. Against Nepal, he was much more fluent, compiling a 62-ball 67 as India eased past an adjusted target of 145 with 17 balls to spare and all 10 wickets in hand.
“It was important for me to finish the game along with Rohit bhai and we did that,” said Gill. “He (Rohit) is the kind of player who likes to take the bowlers on aerially. I am the kind of player like to hit more boundaries than go aerial. That combination works quite well for us. They bowled very well with the new ball, they challenged us.”
It was Gill’s seventh half-century in ODIs, and along the way, he became the fastest Indian batsman to reach 1,500 runs in the format.
