David Miller is optimistic about South Africa’s chances of making history by winning their first-ever World Cup title. The batter said he doesn’t dwell on past records or pressure. Instead, he and his teammates are focused on the present and the upcoming opportunity to create history.
“We genuinely believe that we can do something special. The reality is we haven’t won a World Cup, so there’s no point brushing that under the carpet. But personally, I don’t live with those things on my shoulders. The past is the past. It doesn’t impact me at all,” Miller told BBC Sport.
“It’s about what’s in front of you, the next ball, your next moment. I know the other guys are in the same mindset. We’re looking at it as a chance to create history. What a brilliant opportunity this is. If we play well, we know we’ve got a chance,” Miller admillerded.
South Africa reached the semi-finals in 1992, 1999 and 2015. In 2015, New Zealand dashed their hopes. Miller was part of that team. With 4090 runs at an average of 42.06 in 160 ODIs, he is one of their most seasoned players.
South Africa will kick off their World Cup campaign against Sri Lanka at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on October 7.
