The duo of Dipika Pallikal Karthik and Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu secured India’s 20th GOLD medal in the ongoing Asian Games in China as they defeated Malaysia (Azman Aifa Binti/Mohammad Syafiq) 2-0 in the final of the Squash Mixed Doubles. In both the sets, they won with a scoreline of 11-10.
This win ensured India’s 83rd medal overall as India’s best-ever Asian Games campaign is going on strongly. After this massive victory, our correspondent, Trisha Ghoshal had a quick interaction with them. Dipika and Harinder were asked about the equation and connection between them and whether that has helped them in winning as they have been playing together for more than a decade now.
In reply, Dipika jokingly said ‘Make us feel old’ and added that they have grown up together as Squash players. She further added that they have always tried to hang out together during training and tournaments. Dipika also said that they were not certain to win this tournament but always wanted to put in all their effort and hardwork.
Fortunately, the tournament turned out to be a successful one for them and Dipika sounded delighted. Harinder also sounded happy as he could not control his emotions. He also claimed how he has managed to keep his nerves in the final despite losing some points and how their teamwork has worked eventually.
