Daryl Mitchell, the New Zealand all-rounder, has been sold to Chennai Super Kings for a whopping sum of Rs 14 crore in the IPL 2024 auction. Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals were involved in an intense bidding contest. Chennai Super Kings came into the picture much later and ended up buying Mitchell’s services.
Mitchell, who can also bowl some overs of seam, is renowned for his ability to play spin. He uses his reach to good effect to play shots down the ground. Mitchell was in great form during the 50-over World Cup held in India, amassing 552 runs at an average of 69 and strike rate of just over 110. Mitchell also composed a hundred in the semi-final against India in Mumbai but ended up on the losing side.

Mitchell has so far played 186 T20 matches and aggregated just over 4,000 runs at a strike rate of 135.14. Mitchell, who had made his T20 debut way back in 2012 for Northern Districts against Canterbury, has a highest score of 88 not out. He has 17 more fifties to his name. He has also scalped 73 victims in this format at an average of a tad over 23. In T20Is for New Zealand, Mitchell has accrued 1,069 runs at an average of 24.86.
Alongside Northern Districts, the 32-year-old has played for Canterbury, Rajasthan Royals and London Spirit in the Men’s Hundred Competition.
