In Dubai on December 26, 2023, the PBG Eagles, led by US Open Champion Daniil Medvedev and Australian Open quarterfinalist Andrey Rublev, secured victory in the World Tennis League. The team triumphed over Team Kites with a score of 29-26 in the finals at the Etihad Arena, UAE, claiming the coveted trophy and winning purse.
The PBG Eagles displayed a strong performance, bouncing back after losing the opening mixed doubles match. Despite Medvedev and Mirra Andreeva’s defeat in a tie-breaker to Paula Badosa and Stefanos Tsitsipas, the team secured victories in women’s doubles, men’s doubles, and women’s singles.
Andreeva and Sofia Kenin won the women’s doubles against Badosa and Aryna Sabalenka with a 7-5 score. Medvedev and Rublev easily defeated Grigor Dimitrov and Lloyd Harris with a 6–3 victory in the men’s doubles. In the women’s singles category, World No. 33 Kenin upset World No. 2 Sabalenka.
Medvedev, expressing satisfaction with his performance, mentioned his happiness about winning in his first World Tennis League. Rublev, pleased with his contributions, highlighted the team’s approach to matches and the importance of a podium finish.
