The second T20I turned out to be a thrilling spectacle, with India once again asserting dominance against Afghanistan. Key to this series-winning triumph were standout performances by Axar Patel, Yashasvi Jaiswal and the new power-hitter, Shivam Dube. Each of them played pivotal roles, contributing significantly to the team’s success.

Axar’s strategic spin bowling proved instrumental in curbing Afghanistan’s momentum. He clinched two crucial wickets, conceding a mere 17 runs. This performance set the tone for India’s control over the match. On the other hand, Jaiswal exhibited intent from the onset, adopting an aggressive approach against the Afghan bowlers. His explosive innings of 68 off 34 deliveries laid a formidable foundation for Dube to unleash his prowess, achieving back-to-back fifties.

Afghanistan, batting first on a seemingly flat wicket, struggled to optimize the conditions. Although Gulbadin Naib showcased a fiery display, amassing 57 off 35 balls, the Afghan batters failed to find a consistent rhythm. Notably, Mohammad Nabi, who shone in the previous T20, could only add 14 runs to his tally. This created pressure on the batting line-up. Towards the end, Karim Janat and Mujeeb Ur Rahman played handy knocks, contributing to an average total.

Credit was due to the Indian bowlers who executed a well-timed assault, taking wickets at regular intervals, particularly in the final overs. Arshdeep Singh was in good rhythm, scalping three key wickets without conceding too many. Alongside Dube, Axar, and Arshdeep, Ravi Bishnoi also made his mark by taking two wickets, putting the brakes on the scoring.

In the pursuit of the target, India faced early pressure with the loss of captain Rohit Sharma. However, the team exhibited resilience, primarily through a stellar knock by Jaiswal, a steady contribution by Virat Kohli, and a commanding innings by Dube. This collective effort ensured India reached the target of 172 with minimal hiccups.

Heading into the third T20I, India now have the opportunity to experiment with the XI. While Afghanistan may be disheartened by their inability to level the series, the upcoming match should see them play freely, since they have nothing to lose.
