Rajasthan Royals (RR) suffered a major setback as fast bowler Prasidh Krishna has been ruled out of the forthcoming IPL 2024 due to a recent surgical procedure on his left proximal quadriceps tendon.

Prasidh sustained the injury during a Ranji Trophy match for Karnataka against Gujarat, just a week after returning from the South Africa tour. He was forced to leave the field after bowling 14.5 overs in Ahmedabad and was visibly in pain, limping off with the injury.

Having undergone surgery for his quadriceps injury last month, Prasidh will now undergo rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

Unfortunately, Prasidh also missed selection for India in the first two Tests against England, with the BCCI not specifying the reason at that time.

“The fast bowler underwent surgery on February 23 on his left proximal quadriceps tendon. He is currently being monitored by the BCCI Medical Team and will resume rehab at the National Cricket Academy soon. He will not be able to take part in the upcoming IPL 2024,” said the BCCI’s media release.

This injury is the latest setback for the 28-year-old right-arm pacer, who previously endured a nearly year-long absence due to a lumbar stress fracture, causing him to miss the earlier IPL as well.

For the Royals, acquiring Prasidh’s services came at a significant cost, with the franchise splurging a hefty Rs 10 crore at the mega auction. However, despite their investment, Prasidh was only able to feature in IPL 2022 before succumbing to this latest injury setback.
