MS Dhoni, at the age of 42, once again showed his class and quality by cracking a brilliant 9-ball 28, in the crucial IPL game versus Lucknow Super Giants in Lucknow. His sparkling innings included three boundaries and two sixes, with one of those hits being measured at 101 metres. It was just 7 metres short of equalling the biggest six of the 2024 IPL .
With the score reading 160 for 6, Yash Thakur missed out nailing the yorker in the last over of Chennai Super Kings’ innings, and Dhoni duly smacked the full ball into the midwicket stands. The line of the delivery wasn’t poor, but Thakur couldn’t find the right length on that occasion. He also took on Mohsin Khan, one of LSGs best pacers, by clubbing him for a four and a six in the penultimate over.
CSK, who were in a spot of bother at 90 for 5 in the 13th over, ended their innings on a strong note, accumulating 176/6. Ravindra Jadeja, the all-rounder, also played his part with an undefeated fifty-seven. Dhoni has certainly rolled back the years. In CSK’s previous game, he had collected three sixes in the last over off Hardik Pandya. Incidentally, he is striking at a whopping 255.88 this year.
There were speculations at the start of the year that Dhoni could hang up his spiked boots from cricket at the conclusion of this IPL. In that backdrop, Dhoni has received a rousing welcome in every single game played by CSK so far. In the ongoing match versus LSG, a sizeable number of fans are wearing yellow jersey. On expected lines, there were loud cheers when Dhoni came out to bat.
On a side note, on this day in 2008, Dhoni had played is maiden IPL game!
