As the Duleep Trophy starts on September 5, it offers an ideal stage for players to showcase their talent and make a mark in front of India’s selectors. Seasoned campaigners like Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant will look to use this opportunity to reaffirm their place, while emerging talents, mindful of the upcoming heavyweight Test series for India, will be eager to leave a lasting impact.

From Team A, all eyes will be on Riyan Parag and Dhruv Jurel, two promising batters who have recently debuted for India. Parag, who seems to have the backing of the selection committee, will aim to capitalise on this support by scoring heavily in the Duleep Trophy. While a Test debut might not be on the immediate horizon, strong performances in this tournament can only benefit the young batter’s growth. Jurel, who impressed with his temperament and class during the series against England, faces a tough challenge with Pant’s return. A standout Duleep Trophy campaign for Jurel could make the selection process even more intriguing.

Team B will be looking to maximise the potential of Musheer Khan and Nitish Kumar Reddy in the upcoming Duleep Trophy. Musheer, who has been on the selectors’ radar since last year due to his consistent domestic performances, will aim to make significant contributions with both the bat and the ball. Often seen as a potential successor to Ravindra Jadeja, Musheer’s future will heavily depend on how he handles the pressure in this tournament. Nitish, on the other hand, fresh off a successful IPL stint early on in the year, will seek to carry the same confidence into the Duleep Trophy. As a fast-bowling all-rounder, a strong showing from Nitish could fast-track him into the Indian team, in a role that is highly valued in the current setup.

In other news:

Teams C and D feature promising talents like Sai Sudharsan and Harshit Rana, who are eager to make their mark. Sudharsan’s talent is undeniable, but with the intense competition in India’s batting lineup for Test cricket, he will need to deliver exceptional performances to catch the selectors’ attention. Although a spot in the Test team might be challenging to secure immediately, his potential suggests that it’s only a matter of time before he becomes a regular in the Indian squad.

Rana, on the other hand, has had a breakthrough year with impressive performances that have demonstrated his readiness for the big stage. While he is currently seen as a stronger contender for shorter formats, the Duleep Trophy offers him a valuable opportunity to prove his capabilities in the longer form as well. Both players are on the brink of something special, and their performances in this tournament could significantly impact their future prospects.
