Centuries, Dominance and Resilience Define Day 2 of Ranji Trophy Round Four

Day 2 in the fourth round of Ranji Trophy showcased more spectacular performances, with Mumbai extending their dominance, thanks to Shreyas Iyer’s sensational 233. Returning after a period away from the game, Iyer would be thrilled with this performance, hoping to maintain momentum in the upcoming matches. Siddesh Lad contributed an unbeaten 169, while Suryansh Shedge provided valuable support with a rapid 79 not out. By stumps, Mumbai had firmly seized control, leaving Odisha at 146/5.

Kerala continued to dominate Uttar Pradesh, extending their lead to 178 runs. Following Jalaj Saxena’s stellar performance on Day 1, Kerala’s batters stepped up as Sachin Baby scored a crucial 83, and Salman Nizar, unbeaten on 74, strengthened their position to 340/7. Meanwhile, the Hyderabad vs Rajasthan match is shaping up nicely, with Rahul Radesh Chigullapalli’s century taking Hyderabad to 410. Rajasthan responded solidly, reaching 117/1. Vidarbha’s Dhruv Shorey also shone, posting an unbeaten 108 against Himachal Pradesh, guiding his team to 283/2 by stumps.

Nishant Sandhu delivered a standout bowling performance for Haryana, claiming six key wickets to restrict Punjab to just 141. Punjab’s bowlers fought back, holding Haryana to 243, and by the close of Day 2, Punjab had reached 73/3, setting up an exciting Day 3. Meanwhile, Sanjeet Desai’s remarkable 110 led Chhattisgarh to a commanding total of 500 against Railways. However, Railways responded confidently, ending the day at 75/0 and keeping the contest alive.

Shubham Sharma extended his superb innings for Madhya Pradesh, ultimately scoring a massive 240, setting the foundation for a dominant total of 616. Venkatesh Iyer added a powerful 174, putting Bihar on the back foot. They were 131/4 at stumps. Baroda, after a strong start, could only reach 235, with Tripura’s openers making their mark and ending the day at 192/1. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu, after being dismissed for 338, sees a balanced game as Assam counters with 176/3. Day 3 holds crucial importance for all sides looking to secure the upper hand.
