Mahipal Lomror, Vasuki Koushik take spotlight on day 1 of Ranji Trophy round 5

The fifth round of Ranji Trophy matches kicked off with standout performances across several games. Mahipal Lomror led the charge for Rajasthan, scoring an impressive 141* against Uttarakhand, taking his team to a solid 362/4. In the Uttar Pradesh vs. Karnataka clash, Uttar Pradesh struggled, bowled out for just 89 runs thanks to Vasuki Koushik’s exceptional spell. Karnataka ended the day at 127/5 in reply. Baroda’s Mahesh Pithiya was instrumental with six wickets, restricting Meghalaya to 103. With Jyotsnil Singh’s 121 taking Baroda to 306/6, they hold a strong position in the match.

Saurashtra set themselves up strongly at 299/2 against Chandigarh, led by Chirag Jani’s impressive 153*, while Harvik Desai contributed significantly, narrowly missing a century with 99. Goa also saw big scores from Kashyap Bakhale and Snehal Kauthankar, with their unbeaten 179* and 146* taking the team to a dominant 414/2 against Arunachal Pradesh. Services are holding their ground at 192/6 in their contest against a powerful Mumbai side. In other action, Auqib Nabi’s six-wicket haul for Jammu and Kashmir against Tripura has given them the upper hand.

Vishal Jain’s unbeaten 110* is proving vital for Gujarat as they look to extend their score from 281/6 against Vidarbha. Meanwhile, Bengal’s batting lineup faltered under a disciplined performance from Madhya Pradesh’s bowlers, wrapping up at 228 and leaving Madhya Pradesh poised to start the day at 103/1. Over in Punjab, a unified bowling effort saw Bihar dismantled for a modest 135, while Hyderabad’s Tanmay Agarwal stole the spotlight with a masterful 124*, helping his side reach 244/5 against Andhra. Furthermore, Odisha has taken a strong stance in their game against Maharashtra, dismissing their opposition for 162 and responding with a confident 99/1, setting themselves up favorably.
