It was the evening my two-year ban was announced, April 23, 2022. My first thought was to speak to Sharmistha, my wife and co-founder, and tell her that come what may, we wouldn’t let RevSportz suffer. For, it isn’t about me. Never was. It was about creating something that every journalist would want to be a part of. Giving people opportunities they could make the most of. Helping build careers and enriching the fraternity.
When you are part of an organisation, it is often about you and yourself. You want to travel, make a mark, break stories, keep churning out exclusives. But when you set up an organisation, the ‘I’ takes a distant backseat. It is always the WE. Build the team. Help young people grow. Help them get better. And for us, Sharmistha and I, it was always about covering multiple sports. Sending our colleagues to different parts of the world, and making them better journalists in the process.

It was with this vision that seven of us travelled to Paris for the Olympics, and five went to the Paralympics. And now, several of us will travel to Australia. Our team has covered the men’s and women’s T20 World Cups on location, and we will also have colleagues in Singapore for the world chess face-off between D Gukesh and Ding Liren.
I have learnt a lot myself by being on ground when things have unfolded. You see a lot more, absorb a lot more and, in the process, learn a lot more. It isn’t possible when you watch on television, or cover sport sitting at your desk. That’s what RevSportz is about, to help journalists get better and make the fraternity a coveted one.
As we turn three, it feels good that each of our teammates have got opportunities. Learnt a lot and enjoyed doing so. It will be no different in Australia. Or Singapore. And more going forward. To see colleagues grow is a huge satisfaction. We are now a team of nearly 50, and in three years, RevSportz has become a platform which is much loved and appreciated. To many more years of trying to enrich sport.
