Rohit Sharma is going through a poor run of form in the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy. The Indian captain has managed scores of 10, 3 and 6 runs in the series so far. Rohit had to miss the first Test match in Perth because of the birth of his second child. He decided to come down the order following KL Rahul’s impressive show with the bat in the opening game. The change, though, has not been fruitful as the Australian fast bowlers got the better of him in all the three innings.

On being asked where his batting order will be for the Boxing Day Test, the Indian captain said he will do whatever is the best for the team.

“Let’s not worry about who bats where. Something that we need to figure out and not something that I would be discussing here. We will do what is best for the team,” Rohit said in the pre-match press conference.

Meanwhile, the Indian team had their final practice session at the Melbourne Cricket Ground ahead of the Boxing Day Test against Australia, which gets underway from December 26. As expected, hundreds of fans, mostly Indians, gathered at the nets area, at the G, in order to cheer their favourite players. The fans were making a lot of noise which did not go down well with senior players like Virat Kohli and Rohit.

The Indian captain was literally not happy as he expressed his dissent to the media manager after he finished taking throwdowns. Rohit also had a heartwarming encounter with a persistent fan after a practice session at the MCG. Following the practice session, he took some time out to interact with the supporters, signing autographs and chatting with them.

Jaspreet, a die-hard fan of Rohit, was with her family to catch a glimpse of the Indian players train and get a jersey signed by the Indian skipper. She had to wait for almost eight hours before her perseverance paid off. Rohit paused for a moment while he was leaving the net practice arena to sign the jersey. The gesture from Rohit made Jaspreet’s day and she said to Revsportz that it was a dream come true for her and she will frame the jersey signed by Rohit in the drawing room.

With the five-match series levelled at 1-1, a win in the Boxing Day Test will help India retain the Border Gavaskar Trophy. And for that the captain needs to lead from the front. Rohit might be hoping for Santa Claus to bring some good fortune for him. For us, Indian fans, what could be a better Christmas gift than the Indian captain roaring back to form?
