The third-last session of day three of the RevSportzTrailblazers Conclave 3.0 addressed the streamlining, league funding and athletes’ finances . The guests were Prof. Vijay Pereira, Dr Ravikesh Srivastava, Jaimin Bhatt, Sandipan Roy, Sabina Chopra, and Rahul Banerjee. It was moderated by Prantik Mazumdar.
On providing much-needed support to the women’s sports, Sabina said: “Audience and funds are limited for women’s sports. In men’s tournaments in any sports the funds are huge where girls are still searching for sponsorships till now and that is our motive going forward to support them so that people can see the women’s sports in a different way.
“Talent is there but we need proper persons to groom then. Find these unpolished talents, point out and pick them. Then, give the finishing touch”
Prof. Pereira shared his views: “Leagues need to be runprofessionally, and when that thing happens, leagues are successful. But having professional people is a must.”
Banerjee came up with a suggestion that foreign coaches are required to coach our coaches apart from training young or senior players. Before an Olympics, lot of people comes to fund players but the important part is to have support throughout, especially for the equipment.
Roy also shared the view that a proper financial plan is also needed for a better path in an athletes’ career.
Concluding the session, the panel also came to an agreement that an athlete requires the help or support most at the grassroot level, and that is when everyone should step up and help them for further success.
