Excitement is soaring in Jamshedpur as the city gears up to host Mohun Bagan Super Giant in the first leg of the ISL semi-final. The match has already generated an overwhelming response from fans, with a staggering 17,000 tickets sold within just 24 hours. A fully packed stadium is expected to welcome the visitors, and the home side will look to harness the energy of their passionate supporters in pursuit of a favourable result before heading to Kolkata—where Mohun Bagan remains unbeaten this season.

For the first time in ISL history, Jamshedpur will host a semi-final, and the local fans are eager to make the most of this historic occasion. Adding to the intrigue of the clash is the stature of their opponents. Jamshedpur suffered a 3-0 defeat against Mohun Bagan in Kolkata earlier this season but managed to hold them to a hard-fought 1-0 draw at home.

Learning from past encounters, Jamshedpur head coach Khalid Jamil is well aware of the challenge Mohun Bagan presents. He has urged his players to stay focused and approach the game with confidence. “A semi-final is a different challenge. Mohun Bagan is a strong side, but we are concentrating on ourselves and aiming for a positive result. We have to be cautious against them and stick to our game plan,” Khalid stated in the pre-match press conference.

Jamshedpur defender Stephen Eze, who scored a stunning solo goal against Mohun Bagan in their last meeting, is optimistic about his team’s chances. “We respect Mohun Bagan—they are a quality side and have just won the Shield. But football is about the effort you put in over 90 minutes. If we give our best, we can achieve the result we want,” Eze remarked.

Jamshedpur heads into this crucial match on the back of an emphatic victory over NorthEast United in the ISL knockouts. In their last outing, former Mohun Bagan midfielder Pronay Halder put in a stellar defensive shift, stepping up in the absence of versatile defender Pratik Chaudhary. Despite his past association with Mohun Bagan, Pronay remains fully committed to his current team’s success. “I still have a soft corner for Mohun Bagan—they’ve been the best side this season. But if we play to our potential and execute our plan, we can get a positive result,” he stated.

Jamshedpur could also receive a boost with the potential return of Pratik, who has been recovering from injury. The defender participated in a mobility session on the eve of the match to test his readiness. “Pratik is feeling better, but we will take a final call on his availability in the morning,” Khalid hinted.

Meanwhile, Mohun Bagan has arrived in Jamshedpur without two of their key players—Lalengmawia Ralte (Apuia) and Manvir Singh. Their absence leaves a gap in the squad, and all eyes will be on how their replacements step up in this crucial fixture.

Players to watch out for

Javi Hernandez

The Spanish midfielder is just two-goal contributions away from reaching the 50-mark in the ISL, with 29 goals and 19 assists to his name. If he finds the net in this match, he will secure the second-highest goal tally in a single season for Jamshedpur FC, trailing only Greg Stewart’s 11-goal feat from the 2021-22 campaign.

Greg Stewart

With 5 assists and 2 goals this season, the former Jamshedpur midfielder has been a constant threat to every opponent. Having already won three League Shields—previously with Jamshedpur and Mumbai City FC, and now with Mohun Bagan—he is determined to achieve his long-awaited double by adding the Cup to his collection.

“I’ve won both the Shield and the Cup before, but never in the same season. This time, I want to win them together.”
