Sai Sudharsan’s knock of 82 guided Gujarat Titans (GT) to a 58-run win over Rajasthan Royals (RR) in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match in Ahmedabad on Wednesday. The home side made 217/6 and restricted the visitors to 159 thanks to an united effort by the bowlers. It was GT’s fourth win in their fifth game and put them on top of the table. RR have two wins from five outings.
It was always going to be difficult for the Royals after GT put up those many runs on the board. Mohammed Siraj continued his good run and all six of their bowlers took at least one wicket each. Prasidh Krishna took 3/24 in four overs and Rashid Khan overcame a three-match barren run by claiming 2/37 in his quota of overs. These bowlers struck at regular intervals and didn’t allow Rajasthan to cut loose when it mattered.
Gujarat lost skipper Shubman Gill early, but found contributions from their No. 3 and No. 4 batters. Jos Buttler and Shahrukh Khan both made 36 and shared crucial partnerships with Sudharsan, who anchored the innings and also played the role of aggressor. The Tamil Nadu batter’s 82 came off 53 balls, with eight fours and three sixes. Rahul Tewatia and Rashid added quick runs towards the end.

It was always going to be a tough chase for Rajasthan and they kept losing wickets. Yashasvi Jaiswal’s poor run continued, while Nitish Rana too fell early. Riyan Parag struck three sixes in his knock of 26, but Dhruv Jurel also fell cheaply after his dismissal. Shimron Hetmyer made a half-century and Sanju Samson 42, but those efforts were never going to be enough. In fact, just three of their 11 batters crossed double figures.
Batting big has been one of the keys to success this season and that is where Gujarat claimed this match. Sudharsan’s elegant knock made sure that they had someone at one end, while the others rallied around him. None other than the opener crossed 40, but the runs they scored were timely and helped the cause of their team.
