Rajasthan Royals’ inconsistent run in IPL 2025 has been mirrored by the patchy form of one of their biggest retained stars, Yashasvi Jaiswal. With just 107 runs in five innings (scores of 1, 29, 6, 67, and 6), the young opener has failed to provide the starts RR desperately need at the top.
Though a promising 67-run knock against the Punjab Kings briefly hinted at a return to form, Jaiswal couldn’t build on that momentum. In a crucial 218-run chase against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad, he was the first to fall, once again exposing the Royals’ fragile top order.
His dismissal was far from convincing — a loose drive on the up against Arshad Khan found Rashid Khan at deep backward point. It wasn’t a threatening delivery, but Jaiswal’s misjudgment proved costly. He trudged back to the pavilion visibly frustrated, leaving RR on the back foot early in the chase. Despite some resistance from Sanju Samson and Shimron Hetmyer, RR crumbled to a 58-run defeat.
Jaiswal’s form has been lukewarm since last season, where he managed just one half-century and a century, averaging around 30. With the Asia Cup coming up later this year in the T20 format, and the T20 World Cup set for next year in India, the competition for the opening slots is heating up. Currently, Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma are leading the charge for India in the T20Is. Unless Jaiswal turns things around quickly, he risks slipping further out of the T20I reckoning.
