In today’s match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Delhi Capitals (DC) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium—where DC sit comfortably at the second position and RCB are close behind at third—the match holds serious significance in terms of the points table. And one young name in the spotlight was Vipraj Nigam.
WHO IS VIPRAJ NIGAM?
The Uttar Pradesh all-rounder from Delhi Capitals has been going from strength to strength in the IPL this year. Bought at his base price of INR 50 lakh in last year’s Mega Auction, Vipraj has been an exciting addition to the DC squad. In the four games he has played this season, he has claimed five wickets at an economy rate of 8.47.
Vipraj rose to prominence in the UPT20 2024 season, delivering standout performances for the UP Falcons with 20 wickets in 12 games, a strike rate of 11.15, and an economy of 7.45. His 2024–25 domestic season further boosted his profile, where he featured in all formats for Uttar Pradesh, scoring 103 runs and taking 9 wickets.
In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he continued his form with 8 wickets at an economy just over seven. He also showcased his hitting ability, smashing 27 off 8 balls against Andhra alongside Rinku Singh.
Kuldeep Yadav, who has closely followed Vipraj’s progress, said:
“Vipraj was a batter till his Under-19 days. Then, slowly, he began bowling leg-spin. He’s not afraid at all and never hesitates to hit big ones. I hadn’t seen him bat so well in the past,” Kuldeep added. “He is immensely talented and can go a long way.”
