Delhi Capitals (DC) pulled off a thrilling win in a dramatic Super Over against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday. After both teams ended their innings tied at 188, DC successfully chased down 12 runs in the Super Over to claim their fifth win of the season. Finally, after 31 matches, the IPL 2025 got a Super Over.

Chasing 189, the Royals made a strong start as Yashasvi Jaiswal and captain Sanju Samson put on a 61-run opening stand. However, Samson was forced to retire hurt after a fluent 31 off 19 balls. Jaiswal continued with his attacking intent, scoring 51 off 37 deliveries. Nitish Rana rode his luck on his way to 51 off just 28 balls at a strike rate of 182.14. In the final overs, Dhruv Jurel (26 off 17) and Shimron Hetmyer (15* off nine) brought RR close, but they fell one run short of their victory target as DC managed to hold their nerve.

With RR needing nine runs off the last over, DC skipper Axar Patel handed the ball to Mitchell Starc, who delivered under pressure by conceding just eight runs. The match was tied and moved into a Super Over. Starc bowled again and produced another brilliant over, conceding only 11 runs.

However, a controversial moment arose when he bowled a no-ball after his back foot touched the sideline. Though frustrating for DC, the decision was correct as per the rulebook. In the chase, KL Rahul and Tristan Stubbs smashed 13 runs off just four balls, sealing the victory for Delhi.

DC’s innings earlier was anchored by Abhishek Porel’s 49 off 37 and KL Rahul’s 38 off 32. Stubbs added an unbeaten 34 off 18, while Axar chipped in with a blistering 34 off just 14 balls at a strike rate of 242.85. The all-rounder also impressed with his captaincy, especially with his bowling changes and using Starc at the death.

For his outstanding death bowling under pressure, Starc was rightfully named Player of the Match. With this win, DC have now won five out of six games and are sitting in the top spot with 10 points, with a net run rate of +0.744.
