Gujarat Titans (GT) have roped in Sri Lankan all-rounder Dasun Shanaka as a replacement for the injured Glenn Phillips for the remainder of the IPL 2025 season. Phillips, who sustained a groin injury while fielding during GT’s fourth match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, has been ruled out of the tournament.
The New Zealand international did not feature in any playing XI for GT this season, with Sherfane Rutherford being preferred as the overseas option in the middle order. His participation was limited to fielding duties before injury cut his campaign short.
Shanaka replaces Phillips at GT
Shanaka, who joins the squad at his base price of INR 75 lakh, returns to the Titans for a second stint after being part of the franchise in IPL 2023 — a season where GT finished as runners-up. The seam-bowling all-rounder has featured in three IPL matches so far, scoring 26 runs.
“Gujarat Titans (GT) have picked Sri Lanka’s Dasun Shanaka as a replacement for the injured Glenn Phillips for the remainder of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025,” read an official IPL release.
Interestingly, Shanaka was recently spotted training with the Delhi Capitals, sparking speculation he might join them as a replacement for Harry Brook, who withdrew from IPL 2025 due to national duties. However, the Titans acted swiftly to bring the former Sri Lankan captain into their setup.
Gujarat Titans will next face the in-form Delhi Capitals on Saturday, April 19, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
