Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have added South African young gun Dewald Brevis to their squad for the remainder of IPL 2025, as a replacement for the uncapped pacer Gurjapneet Singh. With one overseas slot still available in their lineup, CSK were able to rope in the talented batter. Brevis, who went unsold in the last year’s auction at a price of INR 75 lakh, joins CSK for INR 2.2 crore—the same amount Gurjapneet was bought for.

Brevis made his IPL debut with Mumbai Indians and has featured in 10 matches so far, scoring 230 runs at an average of 23 and a strike rate of 133.72, with a top score of 49.

The 21-year-old was in outstanding form for the Titans in South Africa’s domestic circuit, excelling in both List A and first-class formats. He ended as the second-highest run-scorer in the country’s premier one-day and red-ball tournaments. Earlier this year, Brevis also made a mark in the SA20 league, where he hammered 291 runs at a blistering strike rate of 184.17, playing a pivotal role in MI Cape Town’s title-winning campaign.

First Ayush, now Brevis

This is CSK’s second replacement signing this season, having earlier brought in Ayush Mhatre to fill in for their regular captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. With only two victories from seven outings, CSK are currently languishing at the bottom of the points table.

Their next clash is a high-stakes encounter against old foes Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on April 20.
