Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Sanju Samson is not available for the 36th match of the ongoing IPL 2025 against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
Riyan Parag, serving as the stand-in captain, came out for the toss. However, LSG skipper Rishabh Pant won the toss and chose to bowl first. As stated earlier by ESPNcricinfo, Samson has missed today’s match due to an abdominal injury. In his absence, vice-captain Riyan Parag is leading the team.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi is making his IPL debut. At just 14 years and 23 days old, he has become the youngest player to debut in the IPL.
Who is Vaibhav Suryavanshi, and What Was His Price at the Auction That RR Paid?
This teenage sensation made his first-class debut in the Ranji Trophy when he was only 12 years old. He also represented India Under-19 in the Youth Test series against Australia Under-19. In that series, he scored a blazing 58-ball century. During the IPL 2025 auction, Rajasthan Royals (RR) paid ₹1.1 crore to acquire his services.
In the first three matches of this season, Samson played as an impact substitute while recovering from a finger injury. However, on April 16, he suffered an abdominal injury during the match against Delhi Capitals (DC) while batting on 31 off 19 balls. He looked set to take the game away from DC before the injury forced him to retire hurt.
So far this season, Samson has played seven matches, scoring 224 runs at an average of 37.33 and a strike rate of 143.59. He has one half-century, with a highest score of 66. Apart from Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal is the only other RR batter to have scored more than 200 runs this season.
