In the 38th match of IPL 2025, Mumbai Indians (MI) locks horn with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the home ground of MI Wankhede Stadium. Both the teams are the five-time winner of IPL, which makes this a clash of best vs best but currently both the team is struggling to stay in the tournament where MI is at 7th with three wins out of seven, on the points table CSK is at the bottom with only two wins currently. One name is in the spotlight today and that is Ayush Mhatre a 17-year-old new debutant in CSK’s batting line up who scored fierce 32 run off 15 balls which includes four fours and two sixes at the strike rate of 213.33 he did not wait to show his hitting style he smashed a one four and two sixes in his first over.

Who is Ayush Mhatre?

Ayush Mhatre was born on 16th July 2007 in Vihar, Maharashtra is a promising young Indian cricketer who is a right-handed opening batter and right-arm off-break bowler, Mhatre has showcased exceptional talent in domestic cricket.​ Mhatre, who has not yet played T20 cricket, has impressed in List A cricket with two hundreds in seven matches, a 181 (117) against Nagaland and a 148 (93) against Saurashtra. He also off spins, with seven wickets in four List A matches.

CSK’s bowling consultant Eric Simons was impressed with Mhatre’s aggressive style, something which CSK’s aggressive franchise is also known to adhere to, he said “They play a fearless brand of cricket. If you look at the way CSK plays, there’s a brand [of cricket] we play and he fitted in that perspective to be able to play with a sense of freedom, to be able to play aggressively but the way you play. He came and had really good nets and the guys who kept eyes on him were very impressed with what he’s got and what he can offer for the future. So very excited to have him as part of the side.”

Mhatre played for India U-19 in the 2024 Asia Cup and made news with a 176 in the Irani Cup on his first-class debut. He has scored 504 runs in nine first-class matches and 458 runs in List A cricket at an average of 65.42 and strike rate of 135.50. He also broke Yashasvi Jaiswal’s record as the youngest player to score 150+ in men’s senior List A cricket.

As the IPL is heading towards their play-offs and CSK is still at the bottom, players like Ayush Mhatre could help team to qualify for the playoffs.
