It was a heartwarming moment shared between CSK debutant Ayush Mhatre and some MI players who also represent Mumbai in domestic cricket, following MI’s win over CSK in last evening’s match. In a video shared by MI on their social media, Ayush, who plays for Mumbai in domestic arena, was seen meeting Rohit Sharma, with Suryakumar Yadav also present in the clip.
In the video, Rohit was seen appreciating Ayush for his knock of 32 off 15 balls, at a strike rate of 213.33. “Mhaatre, well played yaar,” Rohit said. Surya then added, “Ayush wanted to meet you and you guys talk and I will join.” Rohit followed up by saying, “We played together in Ranji Trophy.” Toward the end of the clip, Ayush was seen asking Rohit, “How to play pull shot from here?”
“He was very impressive and a very composed young man” – Stephen Fleming on Ayush Mhatre
During the post-match presentation, CSK skipper MS Dhoni also praised Ayush. He said: “[Ayush Mhatre] Batted well, he picked his shots well. Wanted to play his shots, we also haven’t seen him much.”
At the post-match press conference, CSK coach Stephen Fleming also spoke highly of the youngster. “We’ve had a few players through at our trainings and he was a player that stood out. It’s still very hard when you’re in a nets situation to get a true gauge of a player, but from a skillset [point of view], he was very impressive and a very composed young man, which is often just as important. So both MS and I were very impressed with the way he held himself together for the trial. And then when the opportunity came up, we’ve obviously got a view to the future, and he was the name that was pretty easy to pick,” he added.
