In a clash between the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and the Delhi Capitals (DC) at LSG’s home ground, the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium B witnessed a historic moment as KL Rahul created history by becoming the fastest player to score 5,000 IPL runs, achieving the milestone in just 130 innings. He surpassed the previous records held by David Warner, who reached 5,000 runs in 135 innings, and Virat Kohli, who did so in 157 innings.

Rahul’s steady innings of 57 off 42 balls was key to the Delhi Capitals’ successful chase of 160, leading them to an eight-wicket win over LSG. One of the hallmarks of his innings was that he never looked to press the panic button. Batting at number 3, Rahul anchored the run-chase.

The game marked Rahul’s first return to Lucknow since joining the Delhi Capitals for the 2025 season. He was picked up by DC for INR 14 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction and rejoined the team after a short paternity break.

Reflecting on his career, Rahul’s consistent form has been a hallmark of his IPL journey. He had previously become the fastest to 4,000 IPL runs in 105 innings, surpassing Chris Gayle’s record of 112 innings.

With this latest feat, KL Rahul not only sets a new benchmark in the IPL but also strengthens his legacy as one of the league’s finest batters. He could well be the X factor DC need to clinch the IPL 2025 title.
