Delhi Capitals (DC) pacer Mukesh Kumar dismantled the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) batting lineup with a four-wicket haul, as the home side collapsed from 98/1 to 159/6. LSG were cruising towards a big total while Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh were at the crease.
Dushmantha Chameera provided the first breakthrough by dismissing a well-set Aiden Markram. Nicholas Pooran followed soon after in the 12th over. However, the 14th over truly derailed the innings. Mukesh Kumar first dismissed Abdul Samad and then knocked over Mitchell Marsh. In the final over, after being hit for a few boundaries, he bowled Ayush Badoni and then dismissed LSG skipper Rishabh Pant on the last delivery to register his best figures of the season — 4/33. He was awarded the Player of the Match.
Marsh was a key wicket: Mukesh
“Really enjoyed bowling on this wicket. Before bowling my second over, I had a chat with the other bowlers and they told me that it is stopping a bit so I tried to mix it up. I always communicate with the skipper regarding my plans, whether I am bowling slower balls or yorkers. Mitchell Marsh wicket was really crucial, and picking up his wicket was really key for the team around that time,” said Mukesh Kumar in the post-match presentation.
Chasing 160, DC reached the target with 13 balls and eight wickets to spare. Against his former team, KL Rahul anchored the innings with an unbeaten half-century. Abishek Porel set the tone with a well-crafted fifty, while skipper Axar Patel added a blistering 34 off 20 balls to finish the chase in style.
