Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) finally broke their home jinx in the ongoing IPL 2025 season with a thrilling 11-run win over Rajasthan Royals (RR). While Josh Hazlewood earned the Player of the Match award for his fiery four-wicket spell, it was Virat Kohli who once again made headlines, not just for his batting, but also for fulfilling a rather cheeky wish from his wife, Anushka Sharma.
Kohli played a commanding knock of 70 runs off 42 balls at a strike rate of 166.66, laying a strong platform for RCB’s innings. With this performance, he climbed to the second spot in the Orange Cap race, having scored 392 runs in nine innings at an average of 65.33.
To celebrate Kohli’s contribution, RCB’s official handle on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) posted a witty caption: “Aaj 24th April hai, aaj run ban liya.” The post quickly went viral among fans, not only for the pun but also for the backstory attached to it.

The reference goes back to a light-hearted moment from 2023, when Bollywood actress and Kohli’s wife, Anushka Sharma, playfully sledged him during an event by saying: “Aaj 24th April hai, aaj toh run bana le, Kohli.”
This banter was regarding Kohli’s unusual record on 23rd April. Between 2017 and 2023, he was dismissed for a golden duck three times on that very date.

Coincidentally, one of those golden ducks in 2023 also came against the same opponent, the Rajasthan Royals. That added a layer of tension among fans ahead of today’s game. However, this time around, Kohli shrugged off all superstition and delivered a top-class performance that helped his team post a winning total.
