Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) dropped a major hint about the potential return of fast bowler Mayank Yadav ahead of their IPL 2025 clash against five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) on Sunday, April 27, at the iconic Wankhede Stadium.
Mayank has not featured in any form of cricket since India’s T20I series against Bangladesh in October 2024. The Delhi-born speedster, however, has recovered from back and toe injuries and rejoined the LSG squad ahead of their fixture against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on April 19.
Despite his return to fitness, LSG opted to field young batter Ayush Badoni as an Impact Player, replacing Mitchell Marsh instead of bringing Mayank back into the playing XI.
On Saturday, April 26, LSG posted a promotional video on their social media accounts featuring Mayank in the team’s jersey, fuelling speculation about his comeback. The post was captioned, “Kal dikhega tabadtod andaz,” which translates to “Tomorrow, a fierce style will be seen.”
Mayank in line to make his first appearance this season
In LSG’s previous outing against the Delhi Capitals (DC) on April 22 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, Mayank was among the options listed as potential Impact Players.
Mayank made headlines earlier this season as one of India’s fastest bowlers, claiming back-to-back Player of the Match awards. However, his campaign was interrupted by injury after taking seven wickets in just three matches, maintaining an impressive economy rate of 6.98.
If Mayank is picked for the afternoon clash, the red-soil wicket at the Wankhede Stadium — known for offering extra bounce — could perfectly suit his express pace and aggressive style.
It now remains to be seen if the pacer will make his much-anticipated return against MI, with LSG still needing a few wins to secure a playoff spot.
