Indian cricket star Ravichandran Ashwin has added another feather to his already decorated cap. India’s star spinner has been honoured with the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian award. President Droupadi Murmu presented the award at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi, celebrating Ashwin’s outstanding achievements in the world of cricket.
Ashwin, known for his magical spin bowling and sharp cricketing mind, has always been the backbone of India’s Test success for over a decade. With 537 Test wickets in 106 games, he stands tall among the legends of the game. His ability to turn matches with the ball and also contribute with the bat when needed has made him a true all-rounder for India.
Ashwin announced his retirement from international cricket after the Third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy held in Melbourne in December 2024, but remains active in competitive cricket, including the Indian Premier League. He was also part of five IPL teams, including Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS), Delhi Capitals (DC), and Rajasthan Royals, where he took 185 wickets in 219 matches. In ODIs, he took 156 wickets in 116 matches, and in T20s, he claimed 315 wickets in 331 matches.
With this honour, Ashwin’s legacy in Indian cricket becomes even stronger. Fans across the nation are sharing their heartfelt congratulations with this cricketing legend.
