The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) has officially confirmed that cricket will be part of the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. The decision was made during the 41st AINAGOC Board of Directors meeting at Nagoya City Hall on April 28, where Mixed Martial Arts was also approved.
Although the specific venue for cricket hasn’t been finalised, it will take place somewhere in Aichi prefecture. The inclusion is expected to generate strong interest, especially due to cricket’s huge following in South Asia and the fact that T20 cricket will also be part of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games. That will mark cricket’s return to the Olympics after more than a century, the last appearance being in Paris 1900, when Great Britain defeated France.
Cricket’s confirmation adds further excitement to the growing list of sports
Preparations for the 20th Asian Games are gaining momentum with two major meetings scheduled this week. The 1st Technical Delegates Meeting will run from April 30 to May 2, while the 3rd OCA Coordination Committee Meeting will take place on May 1–2.
These meetings are key steps on the road to the multi-sport event, which will be held from September 19 to October 4, 2026. The Games will feature 41 sports and welcome 15,000 athletes and officials from the 45 National Olympic Committees under the OCA umbrella.
Cricket’s confirmation adds further excitement to the growing list of sports, especially with global attention rising ahead of its Olympic comeback.
