Today is the 38th birthday of India’s most successful captain in recent times, Rohit Sharma, who has led India to victories in the T20 World Cup and the ICC Champions Trophy. Rohit has had an illustrious career so far, both for Team India and the Mumbai Indians in the IPL. A white-ball legend, Rohit holds the record for the highest individual score in ODIs — 264 — which he achieved at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata in 2014.

Rohit is the second-fastest player to reach 11,000 runs in ODIs, achieving the milestone in 269 matches and 261 innings, just behind his compatriot Virat Kohli. In the 2019 World Cup, Rohit hit five centuries — the most by any player in a single edition of the tournament. In the IPL, he is one of the two most successful players with six trophies.

However, the whole cricketing fraternity came up with some wishes to celebrate this Indian great. In a post shared on X (formerly known as Twitter) by the BCCI, it reads: “Back-to-back unbeaten ICC titles. T20 WC & CT winning captain. 5x IPL champ. 49 Intl tons. 3 ODI double hundreds. WC: 648 (2019), 597 (2023), 5 tons in one edition. Happy Birthday to the Skipper — Rohit Sharma”

The former team India batter, Yuvraj Singh, tweeted, “Some build records, some build legacies – you’ve done both brotherman! Hope you have an amazing year ahead! Happy birthday Loads of love always ❤️”

His IPL franchise, MI, also wished him, by posting: “बर्थडे आहे आपल्या राजा चा Happy birthday to the one & only – ”

Even Virat Kohli’s franchise, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), also posted, saying: “! Wishing a very happy birthday to the captain of ‘s recent T20 World Cup and Champions Trophy winning teams, and one of the finest openers, Rohit Sharma! Have a smashing day, ℍ! ”
