Punjab Kings (PBKS) Star leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal rewrote the record books by claiming his second IPL hat-trick in a sensational display against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
Tasked with bowling the penultimate over of the innings against Punjab Kings, Chahal faced immense pressure with MS Dhoni at the crease. He began with a wide and was then hit for a six by Dhoni. However, he bounced back immediately, dismissing the CSK veteran on the very next delivery.
Next up, Deepak Hooda managed a couple of runs before skying one high into the air, giving Chahal his second wicket of the over. What followed was sheer brilliance, as Chahal outfoxed tailenders Anshul Kamboj and Noor Ahmad to complete a remarkable four-wicket over and a hat-trick.
Chahal celebrated in trademark fashion, reminiscent of his first IPL hat-trick in 2022 for Rajasthan Royals. This marked the first hat-trick ever taken against CSK and the first in the IPL since the 2023 season. With this feat, Chahal joined Amit Mishra and Yuvraj Singh as the only bowlers with multiple IPL hat-tricks and became the first to take four wickets in an over on two separate occasions in the league’s history. His spell turned the game on its head, reducing CSK from a strong 184/5 to 186/9 in the 19th over. CSK eventually ended with 190/10.
“Five fielders were inside and the plan was to bowl on the stumps and also to bowl wide, not bowl easy balls and play with the batter’s mind. It came from the memes and I had planned to do this celebration if I take a five-fer or a hat-trick,” said Yuzvendra Chahal during the mid-innings break.
