Dewald Brevis produced a jaw-dropping moment on the field during Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) IPL 2025 clash against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Chepauk, reminding fans of AB de Villiers with a sensational boundary-line catch.
While chasing a target of 191, PBKS were cruising at 170/3 in 17 overs. Their skipper, Shreyas Iyer, and Shashank Singh were in control, piling pressure on CSK. Ravindra Jadeja came on to bowl the next over, and Shashank welcomed him with a four and a six. But on the third delivery of the over, when he tried to launch another big one over midwicket, Dewald Brevis pulled off an acrobatic stunner.
Brevis timed his jump perfectly to grab the ball above his head near the boundary rope. Realising he was about to land outside the field of play, he tossed the ball in the air, leapt again to catch it mid-air, and—still not fully stable—tossed it up once more before finally completing the catch on his third attempt, all while staying inside the field. The incredible athleticism and presence of mind instantly reminded fans of the legendary AB de Villiers.
Here is the video of that catch:

In two matches, Dewald Brevis has now scored 74 runs
Despite the brilliance in the field, Brevis’ catch wasn’t enough to prevent PBKS from securing a four-wicket win. With this defeat, CSK are officially out of the playoff race in IPL 2025.
Brevis had a solid outing overall. With the bat, he scored a handy 32 off 26 balls and stitched a crucial 78-run stand with Sam Curran, who top-scored with a blistering 88 off 47. In the field, Brevis added two catches to his name, further boosting his impact.
In just two matches this season, Brevis has already made his mark, scoring 74 runs and contributing in the field.
