Has the fare-thee-well time eventually arrived for MS Dhoni? Chennai Super Kings fans say “never say never” to their Thala. But nothing lasts forever.
At the toss, before CSK’s game against Punjab Kings on Wednesday, presenter for the host broadcaster, Danny Morrison, asked Dhoni if he would return next year. The CSK captain smiled and said: “I don’t know (if) I’m coming for the next game (laughs).” It left everyone guessing.
A four-wicket defeat put paid to CSK’s playoff chances, and Dhoni, at the post-match presentation, once again talked about the future, with a special mention to Dewald Brevis. “He (Brevis) can be an asset going forward,” said the skipper. “I think it’s momentum in the middle order and he is a very good fielder and he has good power so he can hit good balls for boundaries. He brings energy in the field too. We needed that fresh air, someone not caught up in the spiral.”
The IPL brought back an old rule this year that allowed CSK to retain Dhoni as an uncapped player. He returned to lead the side mid-season after an elbow injury ruled Ruturaj Gaikwad out of the tournament. CSK will play their final home game on May 12, against Rajasthan Royals. Time to keep an eye…
