Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) stalwart Virat Kohli believes that matches between RCB and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium are among the most intense in the IPL, largely due to the strong presence of CSK fans in the stands.
Historically, CSK have had the upper hand in this storied rivalry, winning 21 of the 35 encounters since their first meeting in 2008. Even at RCB’s home ground in Bengaluru, CSK have a solid record — five wins in 11 games, with RCB claiming five as well and one match ending without a result.
Kohli credits CSK’s passionate and widespread fan base for the electric atmosphere during these clashes. “One team that, historically, I’ve felt we’ve had the most intense games with is Chennai Super Kings in Bengaluru,” Kohli told JioHotstar ahead of the RCB-CSK clash.
Kohli in awe of the CSK fans
“In Chennai, it’s naturally dominated by yellow and CSK fans. But in Bengaluru, it’s a different experience. CSK fans travel in large numbers, buy tickets early, and take over sections of the stadium. That creates an incredibly intense and competitive environment — it’s one of the most exciting I’ve been a part of.”
Despite CSK’s dominance over the years, RCB had the upper hand in their most recent meeting earlier in IPL 2025, winning convincingly by 50 runs in Chennai. As the two arch-rivals prepare to face off once again, fans can expect another high-voltage encounter in the Southern Derby.
