In a mid-season development during the IPL 2025, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have announced the signing of wicketkeeper-batter Urvil Patel as an injury replacement for Vansh Bedi. The franchise confirmed the update via social media on May 5, revealing that Bedi has been ruled out for the remainder of the tournament due to a ligament tear in his left ankle.

Who is Urvil Patel, and What is His Signing Price?

Urvil Patel, a dynamic player from Gujarat, brings with him an impressive record in domestic T20 cricket. He rose to prominence during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024, where he smashed the fastest T20 century by an Indian, reaching the milestone in just 28 balls against Tripura.

Known for his aggressive batting and reliable wicketkeeping, Urvil has amassed 1,162 runs from 47 T20 matches so far. Urvil was previously a part of the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the 2023 IPL season. CSK have now brought him on board at his base price of ₹30 lakh, aiming to strengthen their squad for the remainder of the season.

CSK’s Campaign So Far in IPL 2025

The 2025 season has been a disappointing one for MS Dhoni and his team. Injuries to key and emerging players have hurt CSK’s balance, and the squad has struggled to find consistent form throughout the tournament. The team is currently at the bottom of the table, with playoff hopes all but dashed.

With the addition of Urvil Patel, CSK may look to end their season on a high, using the remaining matches to test bench strength and rebuild morale. Their next clash is scheduled against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on May 7.
