Team India have reportedly suffered a blow ahead of their clash against South Africa in the ongoing Women’s Tri-Nation ODI series in Colombo, as young all-rounder Kashvee Gautam is said to have sustained a calf injury.

As a result, 22-year-old pacer Kranti Goud has reportedly received her maiden call-up to the senior Indian team. The UP Warriorz player is expected to join the squad soon in Sri Lanka for the remainder of the tournament.

Kranti impressed in the recent Women’s Premier League (WPL), playing for UP Warriorz. She picked up six wickets in eight matches, including a four-wicket haul against Delhi Capitals (DC). Apart from her WPL performance, Kranti has been consistent in domestic cricket. In the Senior Women’s One Day Trophy, playing for Madhya Pradesh, she took 15 wickets in nine innings. That includes a four-wicket haul in the final against Bengal, helping her side win the title. She was named Player of the Match in that final.

Reacting to the news of her call-up, Kranti’s coach Rajiv Bilthare spoke to RevSportz. He sounded proud and confident about her future. “I was expecting this. The expectations from her are very high. As a coach, I am very happy, and her family is very happy. We are very excited. Yesterday, I got this information that she has to go. Tickets were confirmed,” said Bilthare.

“She has worked very hard so far and can perform even better than the performances she has delivered until now. So, for me, she is a deserving player and hopefully she will do well because she is mentally ready,” he added.

Rajiv Bilthare is the secretary of the Chhatarpur District Cricket Association (CDCA) and also coaches in the Sagar Division. He runs the Sai Cricket Academy, where Kranti has trained.

For India, tomorrow’s match is crucial, especially after their recent loss to Sri Lanka. Now, all eyes will be on whether Kranti Goud makes her Team India debut straight away against the Proteas women in Colombo.
