Delhi Capitals have signed Afghanistan’s rising star Sediqullah Atal as a replacement for Harry Brook, who withdrew from IPL 2025 before the season began due to personal reasons. The BCCI confirmed the signing in an official release, with Atal joining DC at his base price of INR 1.25 crore.
The 22-year-old southpaw grabbed headlines during the 2023 Kabul Premier League, where he smashed an incredible 48 runs in a single over and remained unbeaten on 118 off just 56 balls. He followed that up with a blistering 103 in the final, showcasing his explosive potential.
Atal was also the top scorer in Afghanistan’s victorious campaign at the 2023 ACC Men’s T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup, amassing 368 runs in five matches. His performances earned him appearances in the SA20 with MI Cape Town, where he notched a 74 off 46 against Pretoria Capitals.
Internationally, Atal has represented Afghanistan in nine T20Is, nine ODIs, and one Test, scoring 142 runs across formats, including a century.
DC head coach Hemang Badani welcomed the young left-hander, saying: “We are excited to welcome Atal to the Delhi Capitals. He is an exciting, young talent who has impressed everyone with his performances for both the Afghanistan youth and senior teams. Going into this important phase of the tournament, his presence will certainly add depth to our batting lineup.”
Delhi Capitals face Punjab Kings in their next IPL 2025 fixture on Thursday, May 8, in Dharamsala.
