The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially postponed the remaining eight matches of the IPL 2025 of Pakistan Super League (PSL) due to escalating tension between Pakistan and India. The decision came shortly after the plans was announced to shift the tournament to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for safety reasons.
Initially, the PCB intended to relocate the remaining matchesto Dubai. However the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) was hesitant to approve the PCB’s request due to the potential security risks associated to ongoing India-Pakistan conflict, and also UAE has a strong cricketing and diplomatic ties with India. The ECB has the close relationship with the Board of Control for Cricket in India as they hosted India edition of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 , editions of IPL during Covid 19 and as well as India’s matches during ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
The PCB officials said, “The decision to postpone has been taken pursuant to advice received from the Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif”.
The decision of rescheduling of PSL and IPL raised concern about players availability and viewership as both the league’s compete for international talent and audience attention.
There is a strong speculation that PCB was forced to postpone the PSL as they failed to make an agreement with the ECB. The remaining eight matches was originally scheduled to conclude on May 18.
