IPL 2025: Ex-PBKS Batter Hints at September Window for Restart

Former Punjab Kings (PBKS) batter Dawid Malan believes that the remainder of the IPL 2025 season may only resume in September if the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) cannot restart the tournament within the next week.

The IPL was temporarily suspended due to rising tensions along the India–Pakistan border. The BCCI stated that national interest takes precedence and confirmed that new dates and venues will be revealed in due course.

In light of the situation, Malan suggested that if the league doesn’t resume in India or Sri Lanka within a week, the only viable option may be to complete it in September, given India’s packed schedule.

“If they can’t get it going in the next week in India or Sri Lanka, then September seems the only realistic window. India have a major Test series against England starting on 20 June, and the IPL must either wrap up before that or be held after. It’s a huge logistical challenge for the organisers,” Malan told Al Arabiya.

The ongoing conflict has also led to the suspension of the Pakistan Super League. With the cricket calendar already congested, it may be difficult for the BCCI to accommodate the remaining IPL fixtures. However, if the Asia Cup is cancelled — which appears likely — that time slot in September might become available, aligning with Malan’s prediction.
