Scottish defender Tom Aldred has signed a one-year contract extension with Mohun Bagan Super Giant, turning down offers from two other Indian Super League (ISL) clubs. While the club was keen to retain its formidable centre-back pairing, which played a crucial role in securing the ISL double last season, club sources confirm that Aldred was keen on continuing for one more season.
Tom joined Mohun Bagan last season and initially faced scrutiny during his early days at the club. However, as the season progressed, he developed strong chemistry with fellow defender Alberto Rodriguez, forming a rock-solid defensive unit.
Together, the duo recorded the most clean sheets in the ISL last season. Tom also contributed offensively, scoring three goals and providing one assist across all competitions.

Sources close to the club also revealed that Mohun Bagan offered Aldred a contract extension after receiving the green light from head coach Jose Molina. The Spanish tactician has been impressed not only with Tom’s on-field performances but also with his off-field professionalism.
Among all foreign players, Tom was the first to report for pre-season camp. He even represented Mohun Bagan in their opening match of the previous Durand Cup tournament as the sole foreigner, playing alongside reserve team players. This gesture left a lasting impression on Molina, who then recommended extending his stay.
Given that Aldred will turn 35 this September, the club opted for a one-year extension rather than a long-term contract. Nonetheless, his experience, leadership, and commitment make him a valuable asset for the Green and Maroon brigade heading into the new season.
