The BCCI suspended IPL 2025 for a week amid the ongoing India-Pakistan conflict and rising tensions. The announcement came into immediate effect following the suspension of the Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals game midway on 8 May 2025. With safety concerns looming, several international players have returned to their home countries.

Cricket Australia CEO Todd Greenberg said, “The safety and welfare of our players and staff is always a core priority, and we support today’s decision by the BCCI. We continue to work closely with the Australian Government, PCB, and BCCI and are maintaining regular communication with players and support staff in both India and Pakistan.”

Not just the IPL, but the Pakistan Super League was also suspended. News surfaced about a possible postponement with remaining matches being shifted to the United Arab Emirates, but that was later called off due to safety concerns for players.

Australia is scheduled to play South Africa in the WTC 2025 Final from 11 June

IPL 2025 featured a majority of Australian players, many of whom have now returned to their hometowns following the tournament’s suspension. However, with talks of resumption, their return to Indian grounds remains uncertain given the current situation.

SRH’s Pat Cummins and Travis Head, RCB’s Josh Hazlewood, DC’s Mitchell Starc, PBKS’s Marcus Stoinis, Josh Inglis, Aaron Hardie, and Xavier Bartlett, LSG’s Mitchell Marsh, and CSK’s Nathan Ellis are among the notable Australian players involved in IPL 2025.

Their return also remains in doubt due to Australia’s upcoming schedule, which includes the World Test Championship final against South Africa on 11 June 2025.
