Virat Kohli bids farewell to Test cricket after a glorious 14 years of career, wearing the baggy blue and gracing the longest format of the game.
Kohli made his debut for the Indian Test team in 2011. Since then, he has played 123 Tests and scored 9,230 runs in 210 innings at an average of 46.85, including 30 hundreds and 31 fifties.
He is one of India’s most successful Test captains, having led the team in 68 matches and won 40 of them.
“I’ll always look back at my Test career with a smile.” – Virat Kohli
The biggest low point in Kohli’s career came during the 2014 Test series in England, in which he scored only 134 runs in five matches. However, he bounced back like a champion in the 2018 series, amassing 578 runs in five matches at a staggering average of 57.8, giving a befitting reply to his critics.
Kohli wrote in his Instagram handle: “It’s been 14 years since I first wore the baggy blue in Test cricket. Honestly, I never imagined the journey this format would take me on. It’s tested me, shaped me, and taught me lessons I’ll carry for life. There’s something deeply personal about playing in whites. The quiet grind, the long days, the small moments that no one sees but that stay with you forever.”
“As I step away from this format, it’s not easy — but it feels right. I’ve given it everything I had, and it’s given me back so much more than I could’ve hoped for. I’m walking away with a heart full of gratitude — for the game, for the people I shared the field with, and for every single person who made me feel seen along the way. I’ll always look back at my Test career with a smile. #269, signing off. 🇮🇳❤️”
